Training FAQs

Do I need to bring anything?

YES!  It is a requirement of the Examination Awarding Body that you produce photographic identification for your examination.  Please bring one of the following documents with you on the date of Training:

  •          Passport or ID Card
  •          Driving Licence (photographic card)
  •          Think21 Card
  •          Electoral Register Card
  •          Work Pass
  •          Other suitable Photographic Identification.

Please be aware that failure to submit this Identification shall prohibit you from completing the Examination.

If you are completing an Open Course hosted by The Training and Recruitment House Ltd we will provide tea and coffee free of charge.  You are welcome to bring your own food and lunch or purchase from a nearby facility during breaks.  If your course is provided by your Workplace your normal work arrangements will apply.

Do I need to wear anything in particular?

NO!  Make sure that you wear comfortable clothing and you dress appropriately for the weather.  If you wear a uniform at work, check with your Employer of they require you to wear this to the training.  If you are completing a First Aid please ensure that you dress in comfortable clothes due to the practical nature of these courses.  If you normally wear a skirt or dress we would recommend you wear long trousers due to activities you will complete on the floor.  You should not wear jewellery or have any visible piercings. 

I think I might have difficulty with mobility.  I have a Disability.  I have a specific Learning Need.  English is not my first Language.  Can I discuss this with you?

YES!  If you feel that you require any special assistance or adjustments during the Course, please contact us in confidence on 02838 39 45 80 so that we can put these arrangements in place.  It is important that you contact us well in advance so that we can authorise these arrangements with the Awarding Body.  

I will have to leave early or I don't think I would be able to attend each of the required days.  Is that okay?

YES and NO! You will be required to meet the required number of Learning Hours to be eligible to complete the assessments.  You must attend at least 80% of the Course content.  This is monitored by your Trainer who has the right to refuse you entry to the Assessment if you are late or do not meet the attendance Criteria.  You should contact us on 02838 39 45 80 to discuss any attendance requirements.  If you are unable to complete the entire course due to an emergency you can transfer onto the next available course to complete your Learning.  There is a £60 (inc VAT) administration charge to transfer. If you do not attend on the date of transfer or, subsequently are unable to attend or complete the programme you will not be able to transfer for a second time.

Is there a test?

YES!  All Accredited Programmes have some form of examination which could range from multiple choice to written to practical assessments.  Specific information on the assessment for the Course you are completing will be provided to you on the Pre Course Information specific for the Course you are completing.

When will I know if I passed?

It normally takes between 2 and 6 weeks for the results to be processed by the Awarding Body.  If you have any queries contact The Training and Recruitment House directly as the Awarding Body would not be able to deal with your query.  You should keep your Certificate in a safe place as replacements incur a fee.  You may normally resit the examination once without completing the entire Course again.  If you do not pass on the second attempt you shall be required to re-complete the entire Course.  Additional fees apply for resits. 

What if I don’t agree with my Result?

If you are dissatisfied with your results, you have the right to appeal and request a re-mark. Initially, you should contact us at The Training and Recruitment House.  You should follow the procedure below.

Stage 1- Informal

The learner concerned shall appeal to the Assessor in writing within five working days of receiving the assessment decision.  The Learner should provide as much detail as possible for the reason of appeal.

The Assessor shall respond to the learner in writing in five working days.

If the appeal is not resolved and the learner so wishes, then Stage 2 of the procedure shall be invoked

If the learner concerned decides to take the appeal to Stage 2, the assessor shall advise the learner how to make a written appeal to the Managing Director.

Stage 2 - Formal

The learner shall make a written appeal to the Managing Director within five working days of receiving the response from the Assessor.

The Managing Director shall consult the Assessor and the Internal Verifier(s) or Moderator(s) for the programme who may, in turn, consult other appropriate persons.

In the event of the Managing Director also being the Assessor, the appeal shall be dealt with by the Internal Verifier who may consult other appropriate persons.

The assessment decision shall be internally verified/moderated to determine the validity of the appeal.

The Managing Director, or Internal Verifier, as appropriate, shall respond in writing to the learner within five working days of being informed of the appeal.

If the dispute is not resolved, the Managing Director will provide information to enable the learner to pursue the appeal via the complaints procedure.

When an appeal against an assessment decision has not been resolved at Stage 2, and the learner makes a further complaint formal Stage 3 of the complaints procedure shall be invoked.

Stage 3 – Appeal to the Awarding Organisation – NB Fees are payable to the Awarding Body

Should the learner wish to proceed to stage 3, the respective appeals procedure for each Awarding Body shall be followed.  The Training and Recruitment House Ltd is not responsible for paying this fee in whole or in part.  These fees are correct at the time this Policy was written and may change from time to time.  You should contact the relevant Awarding Organisation for further details.

How can I contact the Awarding Body?

Most queries can be addressed by the HABC/TQUK/IOSH registered centre and trainer responsible for delivering your course.  If, however, you do not receive a satisfactory response or if you wish to make a complaint or report any suspected malpractice, you can contact the Awarding Body using the details below:

What will the Training be like?

A variety of Training methods shall be used in all training sessions to appeal to as many learning styles as possible.  The majority of information shall be presented in a customised presentation.  You shall be required to complete exercises whether individually or as a group to consolidate and aid learning.  Other activities such as Question and Answer Sessions, Card Games, DVDs, Role Plays, Problem Solving Activities, Case Studies or other exercises as deemed appropriate. 

At the Training Session we shall collect some additional information from you as follows:

  • Learner Registration Form - to keep you up to date with refresher requirements and new Courses
  • Course Register – to ensure correct spelling of Delegate’s name on their Certificate
  • A post-course evaluation form.
